About this Role

As the Workers Compensation Manager, you will take ownership of the end to end management of LWB’s Workers Compensation Program, including oversight of our Self-Insurance licence in NSW. Your strategic leadership will ensure best practice approaches to policy, compliance, premium management and risk mitigation across all state jurisdictions.

Collaborating with internal leaders and key external stakeholders, you will drive injury management initiatives that align with regulatory and financial requirements. Drawing on extensive experience in large, high volume organisations, you will lead and empower a geographically dispersed team, influencing all levels to manage complex challenges and deliver impactful outcomes.

This is a permanent full time role based in Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, or Melbourne, offering flexibility to work from your preferred location, whether from home or an LWB office. Occasional office attendance will be required for training, meetings, and other business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of injury management professionals to ensure consistent, effective practices across LWB.
  • Coach and support team members to maximise performance and professional growth.
  • Manage the Workers Compensation Insurance Renewal Program, including governance and risk management.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with external partners (brokers, insurers, TPAs) to ensure performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Monitor legislative changes and ensure the program remains compliant while aligning with organisational goals and cost-efficiency targets.
  • Oversee legal matters related to Workers Compensation, including personal injury and common law claims.
  • Manage settlements and negotiations in line with LWB’s delegations of authority.
  • Ensure the security, accuracy, and compliance of injury management data systems.
  • Oversee risk funding strategies aligned with organisational priorities and targeted projects.

Skills & Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Workers Compensation, Injury Management, WHS, Wellbeing, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience leading compensation and injury management programs in medium-to-large, multi-site organisations.
  • Proven ability to lead geographically dispersed teams across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Deep understanding of Workers Compensation legislation and its practical application across various states.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to promote LWB’s Purpose and Values.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting to senior stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check.
