About the role

Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Risk and Resilience, you will be a key member of the Risk and Resilience Unit (RRU) and core member of the National Emergency Management Team establishing a centre for excellence in LWB to harness capability and capacity to manage new and emerging risks and effectively respond and recover from immediate and extended disasters, emergencies and significant business disruption, including the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic response and impacts of climate change.

You will be part of a team to lead the maturity and resilience of organisation-wide emergency management and disaster response as part of the business continuity management framework and in accordance with the National Emergency Management Protocol.

This position is a permanent, full time position, location flexible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the emergency response portfolio within Group Risk Performance and Impact.
  • Maintain an integrated system and organisation-wide capability for emergency management as part of broader application of risk, resilience, and business continuity frameworks.
  • Provide advice and assurance to the Board, Executive and Senior Managers about the outcomes and impacts of emergency response approaches. 
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of emergency and disaster response requirements and prioritise current and future mitigation activities.
  • Implement a robust system of governance to prepare and respond to material emergency events and risks affecting the organisation.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership and management to support and advance emergency and disaster planning and emergency preparedness across LWB.
  • Develop and deliver emergency exercises and training drills to test and improve emergency response capabilities as part of the broader business continuity testing and exercising program.
  • Support business units to maintain and test local emergency response arrangements including coordinating emergency exercises and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead strategy and business plan outcomes and other organisational programs and initiatives.
  • Monitor, coach, support, motivate and develop emergency response capability across LWB corporate and operational teams.
  • Support sector uplift and maturity in emergency management practice.

 Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary level qualifications related to emergency management or relevant field.
  • Current Driver’s licence.
  • Extensive experience at an enterprise or sector-level in emergency and disaster response management including work effectively under pressure, leveraging internal and external relationships to influence and motivate people calmly and confidently in times of crisis.
  • Experience leading large-scale implementation of emergency response management activities.
  • Demonstrated experience is designing and delivering fit for purpose emergency management training and exercising programs.
  • Expert knowledge of emergency management systems, process, and practice in the community services sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and delivering high quality outcomes within agreed timelines.
  • The ability to influence and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including peers, employees, external organisations, funding bodies and government agencies.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills for the creation of reports, correspondence, presentations and other material.
  • Proficient ability in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
