About the Role
We are currently recruiting a Senior Residential Care Workers to join our team supporting children and young people in our Residential Care Homes in Geraldton.
Successful candidates will alternate working 7 days on (24/7 sleepover) before having 7 days off. The position will be well remunerated on an annualised salary given this model and hours of work. This position will be supported by a team of local Residential Support Workers and reporting to a House Manager.
To be successful in this role you will need to have the tenacity, enthusiasm, and experience to support up to 4 children or young people (some of whom may have challenging behaviours and may require trauma informed responses) in a positive and engaging family home environment.
The role requires someone who can quickly build strong and enduring positive relationships, ensuring developmentally appropriate and tailored activities and support. We need someone who is responsible, flexible in their approach (every day will be unique), calm (even when things get tough!) and who is passionate about supporting our children and young people to feel safe and secure.
Each day in the home will be unique and will be tailored to the needs of the children or young people you are looking after; however the successful candidates will also be responsible for all aspects of maintaining a home including cooking, cleaning, washing, transportation to school and activities etc.
The key responsibilities of the Senior Residential Care Workers are to provide 24/7 care, support, and supervision to up to 4 children to ensure their personal and development needs are met in a home environment.
Experience in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) will be highly regarded.
The key duties and tasks are:
- Utilising CARE and TCI, create an engaging, culturally appropriate, nurturing, and safe environment, ensuring appropriate routines while also developing independent life skills
- Provide tailored and developmentally appropriate support and activities, together with necessary personal care and transportation
- Ensure appropriate levels of records and documentation are maintained
- Maintain a clean and organised home, including meal planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning and washing
- Provide direction and guidance to additional support staff
We are seeking someone with the following skills, experience, and attributes:
- Significant residential and therapeutic experience working with children and young people with complex behaviours and trauma backgrounds (ideally experience as a live in carer)
- Strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply CARE and TCI principles, and strong verbal and written communication including the ability to adhere to high reporting and documentation requirements
- Well-developed cultural competency and understanding of supporting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and young people
- Positive, resilient, dedicated and calm under pressure
- Relevant degree or diploma qualification
- A current First Aid Certificate
- Unrestricted Drivers Licence
Background screening will include a National Criminal Record Check, Working with Children Check (WA) and WA Child protection Check (DCP 395).
