About the Role
As a Disability Support Worker, you will be providing person-centred active support to people living with disability in the Newcastle region. You will play a vital role in uplifting individuals facing mental health challenges and disability, empowering them to reach their full potential and enhance their overall well-being. We have opportunities across two of our support programs and are currently looking for Casual and Permanent Part Time staff.
Our Supported Independent Living services help individuals live comfortably and independently in shared housing or in their home, offering assistance with daily tasks such as personal care and meal preparation. These supports are most suitable to individuals who can work flexibly across a 24/7 roster. Ability to work sleepovers REQUIRED.
Our Lifestyle and Community and Day Programs allow you to work a range of short and long shifts between 6am to 10pm Monday to Sunday. These services cater to the routine, interests and abilities of our clients and often includes social outings, recreational and leisure activities whilst encouraging positive social participation and community integration. The ability to work autonomously and without supervision is critical in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support for clients facing complex needs with the ability to remain calm and supportive during unpredictable situations utilising de-escalation techniques
- Work with clients who require assistance with personal care tasks, such as bathing and dressing, as well as manual handling to ensure safe mobility
- Demonstrate the ability to follow person centred support plans whilst maintaining flexibility to the circumstances and preferences of each client you support whether it be within their home or out in the community-
- Advocate for client choice and control in a safe and compliant manner, while supporting them to actively engage and create a sense of belonging within their community
Skills & Experience
- Experience with behaviours of concern and mental health supports highly regarded
- An unrestricted New South Wales driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Committed to work flexible work hours across the week, including public holidays
- Demonstrated ability to use basic technology and software on a mobile and desktop
- A current First Aid Certificate, which includes the course HLTAID003 or HLTAID011
Successful candidates will be required to clear all state-based probity checks; including but not limited to a National Criminal History Record Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.
