About the role

As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide meaningful support to individuals living with mental illness through shared lived experience and practical guidance. This role focuses on empowering clients to discover their strengths, build independence and achieve positive outcomes through person centred care.

The successful candidate will have lived experience of mental health challenges and experience working with people who have complex needs including mental health challenges in order to effectively support individuals and work towards their goals.

This is a permanent part time opportunity of approximately 3 days per week (or 0.6 FTE) based in Fremantle. Some travel to areas surrounding Fremantle may be required.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Draw on lived experience to engage with individuals accessing LWB Mental Health Services
  • Support individuals to understand their needs, identify challenges and areas of improvement
  • Assist individuals to articulate, implement and work towards goals in their support plans
  • Share relevant lived experience insights when appropriate and within role scope
  • Work as apart of the team to support program activities and achievement of individuals outcomes
  • Complete documentation and reporting requirements, including progress notes

Skills & Experience

  • Lived experience of mental health challenges, confidence and resilience to share as appropriate
  • Unrestricted Australian driver’s licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to reflect on recovery strategies
  • Ability to positively engage, interact and work with people who have complex needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge in educational or vocational activities, community participation or independent living skills
  • Well-established self-care and self-support strategies in place

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including a National Criminal History Record Check and WA Working with Children Check
