Working within our Interim Care team, you will provide direct care and mentorship to Children and Young People, generally aged between 9 and 14 years.

Employing the Children & Residential Experiences (CARE) and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) frameworks, you will provide support to young individuals who have likely faced childhood trauma, abuse, and/or neglect with low to medium support needs.

You will be part of a team working to ensuring a safe, homelike environment for children and young people to thrive, supporting them to learn independent life skills, develop problem solving skills and build appropriate and positive relationships with others.

We have 2 Permanent Part Time opportunities available within the Penrith area. Our residential homes operation 24/7, therefore successful applicants will need to be able and willing to work a roster which regularly includes  afternoon, overnight and weekend shifts.

Role requirements:

  • Experience supporting children and young people with who have experienced childhood trauma and disadvantage (Ideally within a residential care setting)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing positive developmental relationships that build trust with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement, and to place the best interests of the child at the centre of all interactions
  • Understanding of the importance of family/kinship connections to children and young people in placement
  • Willingness to assist with activities of daily living, including personal care (if required)
  • Demonstrated peer support, problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Availability and willingness to undertake all shift types, including afternoons, sleepovers and weekends.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011)
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, NSW Working with Children Check and NSW Residential Care Workers Register check.

Life Without Barriers offers a dedicated After-Hours Service (AHS) for all NISS and Child Youth and Family programs. AHS ensures efficient responses to after-hours events that cannot wait until the next business day, reducing on call requirements for our front-line leaders and significantly improving their work-life balance.
