About the role

The purpose of the Youth Residential Support Worker role is to provide a safe and caring environment, assisting the live-in Senior Residential Care Worker to support the young person to de-escalate and regulate their emotions when required, help to develop independent living skills and help the young person re-engage in education and their community.

Candidates who have worked with disengaged young people who have experienced trauma and display challenging behaviours and candidates with experience working with clients with mental health challenges will be highly regarded.

All roles located in the Mandurah Region. Various shifts covering 24/7.

Responsibilities:  

  • Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans
  • Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks 
  • Support the young person’s interests 
  • Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes
  • Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally
  • Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn how to look after themselves eg cooking, housework, laundry
  • Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately
  • Medication administration (when required)
  • Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping

  
Skills & Experience

  • Certificate in Youth Work, Mental Health, or relevant qualification (or willing to work towards qualifications) 
  • Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern
  • Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders
  • Demonstrate confidentiality and have strong understanding of professional boundaries
  • Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds (advantageous) 
  • A current First Aid Certificate (must have prior to commencing employment)
  • A current unrestricted Drivers Licence
  • Desirable: Experience with behavioural management approaches including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), positive behaviour support, trauma and attachment, Sanctuary or CARE residential models (we have inhouse training we will put you through)
