As a Carer Assessor, your responsibilities will involve evaluating foster and kinship care applicants, completing carer reviews and renewing carer authorisations, in accordance with Life Without Barriers standards, policies and procedures.
This role offers a flexible hybrid work model, however regular travel within the Greater Sydney region will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete carer assessments that reflect the needs outlined in the local carer recruitment plan.
- Schedule and attend home visits and meetings with applicants, their families, and referees to complete assessments.
- Ensure written reviews and assessments meet required standards and clearly outline carer development needs.
- Identify training needs, safety concerns, or placement issues during the assessment process and provide feedback and recommendations to the care team.
- Support and encourage applicants to reflect critically on how the caring role will impact their life, family, and relationships.
- Undertake reviews of existing LWB carers as per policy and contribute to the ongoing review of assessment tools and support of case management staff.

Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or other relevant qualification.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the professional body relevant to the above qualification
- Shared Stories, Shared Lives & Step-by-Step Training and Assessment Tools accreditation
- Demonstrated experience in the child and family welfare sector, including carer assessments and identifying strengths and areas for development to support permanency for children.
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Current Australian drivers’ licence.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and NSW Working with Children Check.
