About the role

Lead, motivate and mentor a team of dedicated therapeutic care workers in providing trauma informed care and support to children and young people with backgrounds of trauma, abuse and /or neglect, residing in our 24/7 Intensive Therapeutic Care home in Dubbo

You'll play a key role in supporting Children & Young People to develop independent living skills, engage in education and remain positively connected to their team of Care Workers, Families, and broader community connections. You’ll also work in partnership with a Therapeutic Specialist and Case Manager to lead the implementation of the CARE model and ensure a safe, homelike environment for the Children & Young People in our care.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have a strong understanding trauma and how this impacts Children & Young People along with understanding the importance of family and kinship connections. You'll need to be a hand-on leader who can provide mentorship and guidance to a team of therapeutic care workers, ensuring the delivery of individualised trauma informed support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage home in accordance with the CARE model, legislation, relevant standards, LWB policies and procedures and funding body requirements
  • Model and support staff in applying the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) system
  • Be actively present in the home environment, providing role modelling to staff
  • Oversee and participate in the planning and implementation of therapeutic care plans
  • Manage, support and provide reflective supervision to your team
  • Participate in an after hours on-call support roster as required
  • Provide an environment free of abuse, harm and exploitation for the Children & Young people we support

Skills & Experience

  • A Diploma of Community Services, Youth work or related (A qualification is desirable but not essential for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants with relevant experience)
  • Demonstrated experience working with Children & Young People who have experienced trauma and disadvantage
  • An understanding of complex trauma and its effect on Children & Young People, including pain-based behaviours
  • Demonstrated experience leading & managing a team within a 24 hour Out of Home Care or Intensive Therapeutic Care setting. 
  • Current First Aid (HLTAID003 OR HLTAID011) &CPR (HLTAID001 OR HLTAID009) Certificate/s
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check.
